The Yutong hybrid city bus is 10.5 meters long with a passenger capacity of 79 people. Since it is a gas-electric hybrid bus, it has both liquefied natural gas (LNG) power unit and electric power unit. Besides the dual power units, the vehicles are also provided with engine intelligent start-and-stop technology and high-efficient electric power steering technology with the maximum electric power ratio of 51%.
During the operation, the vehicle is driven by the electricity at starting moment or when the driving speed is lower than 23km/h; the engine will automatically triggered when the speed is higher than 23km/h. When the power demand is low, the engine stops automatically; when the vehicle brakes, the motor can charge the battery through the energy recovery device, thus realizing the fuel-saving effect. Based on the related experiments conducted by the city bus company, the gas-electric hybrid buses can save fuel by 20 percent compared with the conventional diesel ones, and reduce the annual carbon emissions by 50 tons.

Since the vehicle is driven by the electricity at low speeds, the noise is not large while driving at low speeds. Because no diesel is used for fuel, there is no black exhaust gas while stepping on the accelerator. It is learned beside the improvement of passengers’ ride comfort, the operation process of drivers have also become more intelligent, since the continuously variable transmissions and automatic control are adopted for all the vehicles.
Taking the distribution of LNG filling stations in Dongguan into consideration, these new city buses will be put into the routes of 6, 18, 25, 28, 37, C3, C4 and so on.
